How split payments with Card on File work
When you create a private booking with split payment, you only pay your share at the time of booking. Your card is securely stored as a guarantee to cover any pending payments from other players.
Security
- Your card is protected by Stripe, our payment provider. The data is encrypted and never fully displayed.
- Playtomic does not have access to your full card information.
- No amount is held on your card — an actual charge is only made if necessary.
Control
- You can enable or disable Card on file (CoF) from your profile settings in the app.
- You cannot remove your card while you are responsible for a split payment booking that has not yet been played.
Additional Charges Only If Necessary
- If any player does not pay their share within 2 hours after the end of the match, an automatic charge will be made to your Card on file for the outstanding amounts, since you are responsible for the booking.
How to Enable Card on file (CoF)
The option appears automatically just before completing payment for your first split payment booking. You simply need to:
- Review the information about registering your card
- Accept the consent for automatic charges
- Complete your payment
Once enabled, your card will remain registered for future private split payment bookings.
When will you be charged more?
You will only be charged an additional amount if all three of the following conditions are met:
- You created the split payment booking, and
- A player did not pay their share within 2 hours after the end of the match, and
- The club did not mark that share as paid.
In that case, as the booking owner, you will automatically be charged the outstanding amount.
FAQ
- What does Card on file (CoF) as a payment guarantee apply to?
Only to private bookings made online.
- What happens if I don’t want to register my card?
To use split payment, you must accept registering your card. If you prefer not to, you can pay the full booking cost yourself by choosing single payment.
- How can I disable or remove my registered card?
Go to your profile settings in the Playtomic app. From there, you can remove your saved card at any time, as long as you do not have upcoming split payment bookings pending.
- Is there any additional cost for using Card on file (CoF)?
No, using Card on file (CoF) has no additional cost. You only pay your share of the booking and, if necessary, the unpaid shares of other players who did not pay.
- What happens if my card has insufficient funds when an automatic charge is attempted?
The system will attempt to collect the outstanding shares two hours after the match. If the payment fails, the club will be responsible for managing the pending payment with you directly, for example by requesting another payment method at the club or in the app.
- Am I still responsible for pending payments from other players?
Yes. As the booking holder, you are responsible for ensuring that all players pay their share. If someone does not pay within 2 hours after the match, the outstanding amount will automatically be charged to you.
- Is it safe to store my card in Playtomic?
Yes, completely. All your card information is managed and protected by Stripe, one of the safest payment providers in the world. Your data is encrypted and Playtomic never has access to your full card information.
- Can I pay another player’s share if they can’t?
No. With split payment, each player must pay from their own Playtomic account. However, if a player does not pay on time, you will automatically be charged as the person responsible for the booking.
- Can I switch from split payment to single payment after making the booking?
No. Once a booking with split payment is confirmed, it is not possible to switch to single payment, or vice versa. You must choose the payment method before confirming.
- Why do I see multiple charges or charge attempts for a single match?
The first charge corresponds to your own share as the booking holder. If other players do not pay on time, you will see additional charges for each outstanding share. For example, if 2 players did not pay, you will see 2 additional charge attempts. The system processes each share independently.
- What happens if I dispute a Card on file (CoF) charge related to unpaid shares from other players?
If you dispute an automatic charge for unpaid shares from other players, Playtomic will create a debt on your account for that amount. While you have an active debt, you will not be able to make new bookings. To continue using Playtomic, you will need to pay the debt through the app. Remember that by accepting Card on file (CoF), you authorized its use as a guarantee.
