📍 This feature is currently only available for clubs in the United States and Canada. If your club isn't in the US or Canada, this article doesn't apply to you yet.
Two different things share the name "Card on File": here's how they're different
You may have already seen "Card on File" mentioned when making a booking with split payment. That's a separate feature: it's a safety net for private bookings, where the person who creates the booking saves a card as a guarantee. If another player doesn't pay their share within 2 hours after the match, that saved card gets charged automatically to cover the gap.

This article is about something different. It's about giving a specific club your permission to charge a card you've saved — directly, whenever you owe them money for things like a class, a tournament, or a purchase at their shop. It has nothing to do with split payments or bookings you make with other players. It's simply a faster way to pay the clubs you play at regularly, without pulling out your card every time.
What is it?
Some clubs let you save a card in the app and authorize them to charge it whenever you owe them for something — for example:
- A booking or an outstanding balance at that club
- A class, clinic, or tournament you signed up for
- Something you bought at the club's shop (equipment, merchandise, etc.)
Instead of paying in person or being chased down for payment, the club can simply charge your saved card, and you'll get notified right away.
This only works with clubs you've personally authorized, and only for the card(s) you've chosen to save. No club can charge you without your consent.
How to let a club charge your card
Setting this up happens directly from the club's profile in the app:
- Open the club's profile and go to the Home tab
- Scroll down until you find the Card on File section
- Tap "+ Add a payment card" and save your card details
Once you've done this, that club is authorized to charge that card for anything you owe them — until you decide to remove it.
What happens when you're charged
- You'll get a notification (both by email and in the app) every time your card is charged, including what it was for and the amount
- You can find a receipt for the charge in the app at any time
- If a charge doesn't go through (for example, an expired card or insufficient funds), you'll be notified so you can update your card or arrange payment another way with the club
Managing or removing your card
You're always in control. From the same Card on File section in the club's Home tab, you can:
- Check which card(s) you've authorized for that club
- Remove a card or revoke a club's permission to charge it at any time
Refunds
If a club cancels something you paid for this way (like a tournament), the amount is refunded automatically to the same card. Refunds are for the full amount only, and can take anywhere from a few hours to a few days to appear, depending on your bank.
FAQ
-
Do I need to save a card to book or play at a club?
No. Saving a card this way is optional — it's just a convenience so your club can charge you directly instead of chasing you down for payment. You choose which clubs, if any, you want to authorize. -
Is this the same as the card I save for split payments?
No. Split payment bookings use Card on File as a payment guarantee between players, and that card can be automatically charged if someone doesn't pay their share. This article covers a completely separate authorization: giving a specific club permission to charge you directly for things like classes, tournaments, or shop purchases. You can have one, both, or neither set up — they don't affect each other. -
Can a club charge my card without telling me?
Everytime the club charge you using the Card on File, you'll always get an email and an in-app notification whenever your card is charged, along with a receipt you can view anytime. -
What if I don't want a club to charge my card anymore?
Go to that club's profile, open the Card on File section in the Home tab, and remove your card or revoke your authorization. You can do this at any time. -
What if my payment fails?
You'll be notified right away. You can then update your card details in the app or arrange another way to pay with the club directly. -
Is my card information safe?
Yes. Your card details are stored and processed securely through Stripe, one of the world's most trusted payment providers. Clubs never see your full card number — only the card type and the last 4 digits. -
Can I get a refund if I'm charged incorrectly?
If you think you've been charged by mistake, reach out to the club first, since they're the ones processing the charge. -
Can I use this feature at any club?
Only at clubs in the United States that have this feature enabled. If you don't see a "Card on File" section in a club's profile, it means that club doesn't currently offer it.
