This FAQ covers Playtomic's payment rules. It covers the term “temporary hold”, split payments, and Club Wallet usage. It clarifies the pre-authorization processes, cancellation policies, and available payment methods, including why iDeal* cannot be used for split payments. The guide also addresses mandatory pre-authorizations and provides instructions for using alternative payment options and adding new payment methods in the app.
Q: What does a “temporary hold” on my payment method mean?
A temporary hold, or pre-authorization, is a standard banking procedure to guarantee your booking. A small amount is temporarily reserved on your selected payment method to confirm its validity and available balance. This hold is not a payment.
Q: How does the temporary hold work with split payments?
For split payments, the temporary hold is released two hours after the match, once the system verifies that all players have paid their share individually. The club then receives your individual payment (plus Playtomic service fees), and the remaining amount is released from your payment method.
Q: What happens if other players don’t pay their share in a split payment?
If a player hasn’t paid within two hours after the match, the temporary reservation covers the outstanding amount.
Q: How can I see this temporary reservation on my account?
Depending on your bank, the pre-authorization may appear as a pending payment.
Q: What if I booked with my Club Wallet?
The temporary hold also applies to Club Wallet bookings. The full amount will be held from your Wallet balance, but don't worry! Two hours after the match, once all payments are verified, the part of the payment (plus Playtomic service fees) will be collected, and the rest will be automatically refunded to your Club Wallet.
Q: What happens if I cancel my booking?
If you cancel within the club’s cancellation policy, you will receive an immediate refund to your selected payment method (including Playtomic service fees).
Q: Are there any extra fees or charges for the temporary hold?
No, the temporary reservation is only to guarantee your booking and does not incur any extra fees.
Q: Why do I need to ensure my Wallet balance is enough for the full court booking?
Our system requires the Club Wallet balance to cover the full cost of the court booking. This includes the total amount for all players in the booking, not just your share. Make sure you have enough balance before making a reservation. If other players pay online or at the club, any unused Club Wallet balance will be released two hours after the end of the match.
Q: What are my payment options if I don't want to use iDeal?
For split payment bookings where you are the owner of the reservation, iDeal is not available. Instead, you can choose from one of the alternative payment methods.
➡️ Apple Pay
➡️ Google Pay
➡️ Credit Card
➡️ Club Wallet
iDeal is still available for single-payment bookings and when you are added to a split booking (this applies to both regular bookings and open matches).
Q: Why do some players need mandatory pre-authorization?
In some clubs, single payments are not allowed due to club configuration. In these cases, pre-authorization is mandatory for players adding others to their reservation. Pre-authorization reserves funds for all players without immediately charging your account. The actual charge happens after the reservation. If added players belong to a specific membership or category, the amount is automatically adjusted.
Q: Why is iDeal no longer available for split payment reservations?
We no longer support iDeal for split payment reservations because it cannot process pre-authorizations, which are essential for our updated payment system. Pre-authorizations provide a flexible and secure experience by reserving funds without immediately charging them.
Q: How do I activate Apple Pay or Google Pay on my phone?
For Apple Pay:
- Open the Wallet app on your iPhone.
- Tap the "+" sign in the top right corner.
- Follow the instructions to add your card.
- Verify your card with your bank.
For Google Pay:
Open the Google Pay app (or download it if you don't have it).
- Tap the "+" sign.
- Choose "Add a credit or debit card."
- Follow the instructions to add your card.
- Verify your card with your bank.
Q: How do I add a new payment method in the Playtomic app?
If you want to add an extra payment method, you can do it in two ways:
1. From the main screen, go to ‘Profile’ and tap the top right corner to open your settings. Select ‘My Payments’ and then ‘Payment Methods.’ Here you can add any desired payment methods.
2. When you reach the checkout for booking a court, tap ‘Continue with Payment.’ Then you can change your payment method at the bottom and add an extra payment card. If you’ve purchased a Club Wallet, it will automatically appear in your payment methods.
*iDeal is a payment method used in the Netherlands, and only clubs in the Netherlands can have this payment method activated.
