To understand how the Playtomic algorithm works, let's explore the three key factors that determine your level:
1️⃣ Level in the app
When you create your Playtomic profile, you'll complete a questionnaire to set your initial level. This establishes your Playtomic generic level (currently available for Padel, Tennis and Pickleball).
2️⃣ Playtomic scale
The Playtomic levels range from 0 to 7. Below, you can see the Padel level description chart in order to have a general overview:
3️⃣ Reliability %
This is the most important factor affecting your level changes. Reliability indicates how confident the system is about your current level.
Your reliability increases as you play more matches. Level adjustments only occur after competitive matches, not casual games.
How these factors influence the ups & downs of your level
Your level can change based on match results, and the magnitude of these changes depends heavily on your reliability:
- Lower reliability = larger level changes (the system is still learning your true skill level)
- Higher reliability = smaller level changes (the system is confiden t about your skill level)
After each competitive match, our algorithm considers the level and reliability of all players involved. It calculates the average level per team, compares the expected outcome with the actual result, and adjusts each player's level accordingly. Winning against higher-rated opponents will increase your level more than beating similar-level players, while losses have the opposite effect.
